This Winter Skin Care Routine is a Miracle!

There’s definitely a nip in the air and those woollen socks and plush slippers have come out of the closets of my house! The season of hot, sizzling soups and obligatory evening pakodas is my absolute favourite and I don’t know about you guys, but every year, I wait with bated breath for a drop in the temperature.

As much as confining yourself in the warm embrace of your blanket sounds like a fairytale dream, you have to agree that it’s beautiful outside, especially during this time of the year! However, that also means having to deal with the much-loathed skincare problems that are prevalent during winter.

Fret not, for I have the perfect winter skincare routine for you guys, from the iciness of the mountains to those ecstatic city-night chills!

Purchase a more emollient, thick moisturiser as compared to a light and breezy one

The harsh winds and cold weather can take a serious toll on your skin texture. Consider using a face cream with a thicker consistency. I typically layer my skin with a mild argan oil base, it’s proven to be a wondrous solution for my dry winter skin.

Be wary of over-exfoliation! Yes, it’s totally a thing, which I had to learn the hard way

Your skin does not need as much exfoliation as it does during summer! However, that does not imply that you should quit it altogether. If your skin seems flaky, it means you are overdoing on the exfoliator and need to take it down a notch. Light acids are excellent exfoliators and they’re super gentle.

Hydrate your skin with a facial toner!

If you steer clear of facial toners, consider incorporating one in your skincare routine during the winter. The cold weather can significantly dehydrate your skin and a toner not only helps balance that but also strengthens the skin’s barrier. I apply a toner evenly across my face before diving into the moisturising products. The skin is able to absorb the nutrients more effectively and my radiance is retained!

Get a cleanser that boosts skin hydration!

I switch to a creamier cleanser every year as the fall approaches! It keeps my skin well-hydrated, and humectants make it an awesome product for the winter.

Go bananas with those sheet masks!

Clay-based face masks are my jam, however, as the weather starts getting colder, I prefer the sheet masks, as they offer a hydrating boost and imparts that natural glow almost instantaneously! Also, they’re super convenient to apply.

Hot water is one of the main causes of dry, flaky skin!

As much as diving right into a pool of scalding hot water sounds like THE dream on a chilly winter morning, you really shouldn’t do it! If you wash your face with water that’s way too hot, it’ll dry out your skin, leaving it itchy and uncomfortable. Consider washing with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel.

Make sunscreen lotions your BFF for the coming winter months!

Sunscreens are super important, not to mention, super helpful! And not just in the scorching summer heat. Your skin is more prone to being damaged from the sun if you’re not wearing sunscreen during the winters. So, take that lotion off the shelf. Plus, ladies, SPF is literally the best antidote to ageing! You’re welcome.

This winter skincare routine has literally become a knight in shining armour for my skin! So, along with those chunky scarves and Spiderman plushies, I make sure to upgrade my routine and stick to it!

I would love for you guys to share your skincare routines with me in the comments below!
